‘…tells me if only i knew the things that happen away from my eyes, all the sleeping answers that take time, how i would wrap trust more tenderly around my wrist…’

on my way to the shop to buy apples and milk, i find God around the corner, eyes closed to the world, his head held low to the ground, long-legged in his faded denims, listening to the daffodils hidden under the sycamore tree, wearing a dimple in his cheek, he tells me that they are choosing their colours, the exact shades of yellow, how his eyes hold all the light as he smiles at this, tells me it is his favourite time of the year, how the earth breaks open like an old prayer, shows the world her secrets, tells me if only i knew the things that happen away from my eyes, all the sleeping answers that take time, how i would wrap trust more tenderly around my wrist, secure the knot a little tighter, the red thread, how i would never eat fear again.
