I am a storyteller and a poet.
I use words and thread, pencil and needle, paper and fabric.
my work is an ongoing conversation with myself.
there are thin places everywhere
my neighbour sings a morning song to his grandson.
a small body’s laughter finds me through the thinly papered walls.
the mouth of my right ear rests
famished
against the flimsy barricade—the patterned hindrance.
the shape of the soft offering placed in my hands, at once
familiar.
the lilt of the tender summons, water in my hands.
it lingers.
how a thin place, a lack, is a gift sometimes.

Oh Leizel, I’ve always heard the thin places are those places on earth so close to God’s Presence that there is barely any covering between heaven and earth. With this definition, how absolutely the picture of God’s pleasure in singing to her grandson! The joy of His singing over us with rejoicing, and He will calm us with His Presence! So, so lovely…
