look, i know that you feel
as if you are missing out
on life
as it falls into the waiting hands
of strangers
other soft mammal bodies
that you are only observing from a distance
but keep your heart clear
sticks and stones will be thrown
at your surface
even your own hands might do this
don’t muddy the waters
by trying to retrieve them
allow them to sink
the water will settle
in time it all becomes part of the landscape
breathing things will live there
be nourished
be safe there
someone might come
and sit on the banks
and in their searching
lean over
catching sight of their own reflection.
