lessons on faith from the flag iris

The Saltings, Scotland, beneath the mud, the flag iris lie waiting in their watery womb and soon this marshy mudness will be a shock of yellow, and everyone will stop and say things like: oh! would you look at that!

‘…to go deep inside, to travel the wasteland and see the flag iris waiting in the muddy womb, the water-promise still only a dream, and to anyone unfamiliar with the landscape, they are not even a possibility, not even a thing, hidden as they are, waiting to shock the world with a loudness of yellow, and i being witness to the mud, the path as familiar as my own breath, a soft body of failure and faith-ravaged stories, had i not walked the spine of this road with my eyes wide open to what i cannot see, would never have known the riotious beauty waiting to happen…’

walk with your eyes wide open to what you cannot see.

you are a wise creature.

you have seen many things.

you just need reminding that things, much like flag irises, take the time they take.

patience, lovely heart.

  1. Oh Liezel, thank you. I have fallen in love with the flag iris!

I’m weeping as I read your words…..”you just need reminding that things, much like flag irises, take the time they take.”

Just the truth and wisdom I needed today.

    Love to you Gaye xo

  2. I am waiting…for beauty to emerge from the mud of a broken and tangled parent-child relationship within my family. Patience is not easy…but I pray for Easter joy to rise from what currently feels like a time of death and hopelessness.
