for this moment
taste the sweetness of your tea as it fills your mouth
and in the warmth
not borrow anything from tomorrow, or even the rest of your life
not even joy
will you receive the firm lip of the cup as it curves—allow your soft mouth to fully know this moment
only this one
the gift of it
that in this one little moment, you are still breathing
still quietly pulsing
— your whole life lives in this moment

Life is a series of moments.
Some are lovely, but others are as hard as nails and sometimes they run into each other and never seem to end.
But they do.
And I know the temptation to borrow from tomorrow, or the rest of my life—as I see it mapped out, but of course one cannot borrow what one can’t see.
Your whole life lives in this one little moment.
Think back with love, with joy, with fondness, with relief, on the moments that are gone, but hold this one in your hands as what is real right now.
